Zivilisationsstufe (Stage of Civilization)
An Asmat-warrior, with traditional nose ornament presented as a contrast to a fighting scene from the recent Iraq war. This painting contains the question of the quality within civilization.

Ensys I - VI

Weilands present paintings are a comparative portrayal of the sculptural form. After a detailed study of the Asmat shields, especially the old ones, Weiland was struck by their heraldic configuration, power, strength and energy, which he found similar to the symbols used as trademarks of the automobile industry.
